Although we are surrounded daily by individuals who have lost family, friends, and other loved ones, we often avoid talking about death and loss, or simply aren’t sure of what to say, or do, to be helpful. The kite network offers a variety of presentations and workshops to educate the community about how to effectively support individuals in grief.
Grieve Well: Understanding Grief
Did you know that there are healthy ways to grieve? The first step is to understand this painful but important part of life. During this presentation you will learn about grief and the effects it has on one’s physical and emotional health. You will receive information and resources to help you navigate your grief journey in a way that leads toward healing. This presentation is for those who are mourning the death of a loved one, those supporting someone who is grieving, or for those who want more information about grief.

Grief in the Workplace
Grief can take a significant physical and emotional toll, and studies show that unresolved grief can lead to significant health issues including depression, cardiovascular risk, and recurring illness. In addition to its impact on employees’ health and quality of life, studies have documented the negative impact grief has on workplace productivity. Providing employees with the skills and resources to manage their response to grief can not only improve their own emotional health, but proactively addressing these issues can enhance morale, reduce burnout, and positively affect the organization’s culture and productivity.
the kite network has developed a range of customizable presentations and workshops to build an organizational culture that supports individuals in grief. Presentations range from a 1 hour lunch and learn to a 2 hour workshop, during which we will:
- provide a general overview of grief in order to help participants understand the range of normal grief symptoms and experiences,
- discuss strategies for supporting work colleagues who have lost a loved one,
- share resources to support healthy grieving.

How to Support Someone in Grief
During this workshop participants will learn effective ways to support an individual in grief, including what to say (and what NOT to say), tips for supporting individuals in grief, and how to handle special dates such as holidays and anniversaries.
Listen Well: Companioning the Bereaved
Going into more depth than the “Grief Support” workshop, this 2-hour interactive workshop teaches participants how to use the “compassionate listening” model to effectively support individuals in grief. While no one can take away grief, participants will learn practical skills for how to walk alongside the bereaved and “bear witness” to the bereaved’s experience.
Grieve Well During the Holidays
Holidays and anniversaries can be especially difficult for those in grief. This workshop will provide strategies for easing stress during the holiday season including ways to honor your loved one, take care of yourself, and lighten the holiday load.
